IRD Updates and Xero Training

It’s already October! Liddell and Crook Ltd have been in business for nine months now, doesn’t time fly? Rachel is very much involved in the business now, to the extent that Janet has decided to work four days a week.

Janet still opens the Amberley office every Wednesday but is now having Fridays off to go boating or gardening. Because of Janet’s reduced hours, you may find it easier to talk to Rachel when you have a question.  Rachel will also be doing some annual accounts instead of Janet.

Diane is now the proud grandmother of a lovely wee boy, Liam.

We’ve updated and freshened up our website. We also have a Facebook page that you can follow to keep up to date with changes to tax laws and other helpful information.

Inland Revenue has also updated its website and there is now a lot more you can do on the website once you log into your myIR, including paying your taxes directly from within myIR.

We are now banking with BNZ, so please make payments to the bank account number on the invoice.

Inland Revenue & ACC to stop accepting cheques

From March 2020 Inland Revenue and ACC will not accept cheques.

People will still be able to pay both organisations with cash or EFTPOS at Westpac banks, but not at ACC or Inland Revenue branches.

Rental Properties

There have been a few changes recently

  • From next year we won’t be able to claim rental losses against other income earned.
  • All rental properties must have ceiling and underfloor insulation installed
  • From 1 July 2019 for all new tenancies landlords must include a signed statement that the landlord will comply with the healthy homes standards.
  • From 1 July 2024 for all properties, all rentals must comply with the Healthy Homes standards for heating, insulation, ventilation, and draught stopping. If you are doing any of this work, make sure you keep the documents as evidence.

Spam & Scams

Several scam emails and phone calls are doing the rounds. If you’re not sure about an email, please contact us or forward the email to phishing@ird.govt.nz and they will confirm whether it is a scam.

Anti Money Laundering – Identity Verification

New legislation for the new Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009 came into effect on October 1. This means we’ll be formally gathering information to verify your identity and address.

Next time you’re heading to our office, bring your passport or drivers licence and proof of address (not more than 3 months old) such as a utility bill or bank statement.

Vehicle Mileage Rate

The mileage rate as issued by Inland Revenue is now 79c for the 2019 year for the first 14,000 kms and the rate varies after that depending on the type of vehicle.

Home Office claims

There is now a new option for claiming the power and insurance portion of your home office expenses. Each year the Inland Revenue issue a rate to claim per square metre. The current rate is $41.70 per square metre.

Xero Training

We offer Xero training in our office, for $150 per hour for one on one training or $50 to attend one of our regular group Xero training sessions.
